Australian duo DABS MYLA returned to their hometown of Melbourne for their first solo show on native soil in four years. This Artist Driven spotlight sees the couple adding their colorful works to various surfaces in the city – with subtle nods to other Artist Driven artists like TYKE, POSE, KC, CRAOLA and VIZIE added in for good measure – before heading to Metro Gallery for an LRG-sponsored show packed to capacity with people energized to see the installations they had created.

This video covers the process of Rime, KC, Dabs & Myla leading up to the opening of SKETCHY M%#HERFUCKERS / LATE NIGHT LOVERS at Known Gallery in Los Angeles. With Lea Bruno following Rime around, this video offers a behind the scenes look at how inspiration was taken in (ingested), and spit out in some odd all night sessions at the Gallery.
The artist duo known as Dabs Myla paint one of their most ambitious walls up to date in Culver City, California during Christmas 2011, but we get an inside glimpse into the process, what the wall means for them, and how it relates to a tradition very close to their hearts.
Unlike most of us that keep putting off site restructuring, Dabs & Myla managed to work through it all for the start of 2011…

Also, here is a video they released a few months back. The camera man managed to document a minor earthquake right in the middle on their interview…
Our initial concept for this wall was to take the phrase “Only Time Will Tell” and split it up into four sections on the wall. Each word in every section represented a season, starting with winter and ending in fall.
As the wall dragged on our ideas to support the theme got more retarded; more dysfunctional. Having a limited amount of ladders and scaffold we spent a lot of time waiting for others to finish.
Dysfunctional points of interest:
* Coked up Charlie Bronson Yeti saying “AAAAARRRGGGHHHH” to a timid young chick
* Santa says yes to 4LOKO
* Jesus turning tranny was unintentional. The legs were on the wall first. Intended to come randomly from behind the “Will” piece. Later I sketched up Jesus chillin’ at the beach. Revok said I sketched it too small and too far over to the left. I ended up buffing the first Jesus sketch out and painted it larger and more to the right. It took us a good two hours before we connected the possibility that the legs could be Jesus’s. Tired and late as fuck we laughed about it and embraced the idea… Fuckin’ Tranny Jesus!

After many months of traveling, I wasted no time in joining a caravan of Australian tourists and California locals on a road trip to Las Vegas, for Dabs & Myla’s wedding. In a series of rentals we drove out to Vegas for a few days, then with the bulk of the wedding party, we headed over to Arizona to check out the Grand Canyon…
Eyewitness
Midway through our drive from Vegas to the Grand Canyon we decided to stop off at a middle of nowhere exit for a piss break and some off road action in the rental.
Side note: at 31 seconds watch as Sergio’s hat, camera, and cell phone go flying out of the open door of the van. We had to drive back later that night to the same obscure exit to find his phone. Phone calls in the dark quiet night in the middle of nowhere…
How to roll:
- Put insurance on your ride
- Pull over in the middle of nowhere
- Blast classical music
- Try to avoid large boulders, mail boxes, and Australian tourists
Upscale-
It took over 31 years for me to see this place and i must say that photos do it no justice…
Majestic & shit…
I pissed off the side of a cliff at the Grand Canyon… Now I am a man!
