KLUGHAUS NEW YORK PRESENTS – PALINGENESIS – MAY 11TH

PALINGENESIS

Gorey, Horfe, Cony, Tomek, Saeyo, Mosa, Esso, Skub

Opening Reception: Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 6-10pm
Pop-up Location: 154 Stanton St. (@ Suffolk St.) New York, NY 10002
RSVP: rsvp@klughaus.net
Preview Catalog: sales@klughaus.net

Klughaus, in collaboration with LRG and Brisk, is excited to announce PALINGENESIS, a special pop-up exhibit in New York City’s Lower East Side featuring Gorey and Paris’ prolific PAL (Peace and Love) Crew. The group exhibition features a roster of internationally-renowned artists including GOREY, HORFE, CONY, TOMEK, SAEYO, MOSA, ESSO and SKUB.

One of the most prominent graffiti crews in Paris, PAL is united by its members’ shared love of creative expression. With GOREY as a forefather, PAL has developed a unique movement and style of graffiti that is completely its own. While there is a complicated, yet fascinating line between graffiti and fine art, the collective has made a seamless transition into the art world in a tasteful way that does not categorize the work as simply “graffiti,” yet sustains the collective’s distinct styles and energy within a gallery setting.

The PALINGENESIS exhibition will showcase the collective’s debut in the United States as well as its artistic re-birth as evolving fine artists. Gorey & PAL’s incorporation of fine art elements into their work on the streets is pushing the concept of graffiti in a new and refreshing direction and we are thrilled to collaborate on their stateside debut.

The exhibit will be on display through May 19, 2013

DABS MYLA DOUBLE FEATURE OF DANGEROUS DEATH

Australian duo DABS MYLA returned to their hometown of Melbourne for their first solo show on native soil in four years. This Artist Driven spotlight sees the couple adding their colorful works to various surfaces in the city – with subtle nods to other Artist Driven artists like TYKE, POSE, KC, CRAOLA and VIZIE added in for good measure – before heading to Metro Gallery for an LRG-sponsored show packed to capacity with people energized to see the installations they had created.

REYES – DOWN FOR YOU – KNOWN GALLERY

VICTOR REYES | Down For You
Opening reception: February 23, 2013 | 8 – 11pm
Show runs: February 23 – March 9, 2013

“Down For You” is a new body of work from Victor Reyes.
“Victor Reyes has dedicated more than half of his life to painting. Commitment is evident in his work and is a constant theme in the tradition of the graffiti movement. Dedications are hallmarks, written in tribute for the memory of those who came before us and for those who have departed. “Down for you” is a collection of paintings in oil and spray paint that conjure up an imaginary world of pigments and memories.

These pictures are the building blocks of a new painting language for Victor Reyes. Classical references are deconstructed in primitive strokes to complete these anti-portraits and landscapes. The meanings derived from these pieces are multifaceted. Plain objects, stretched across color fields that combat the frame work to which they are bound and tethered, reveal the excitement of destruction. The momentum and rhythm of these movements obscure earlier marks of beauty and begin to decompose the subject into forms less recognizable.” – Known Gallery

WRAP SHEETS DETROIT FANTASTIC

Roughly 5am and laid out on an ER stretcher in downtown Detroit. Hooked up to an IV with steroids to fight off a violating case of Pneumonia, I was lounged and listened to a masked crack dealer laying beside me, enthusiastically muffled, connected to an asthma machine. “You sound like Danny De Vito, you from New York huh? How the fuck they sell crack out there with all those cops?”. This dealer goes on the tell me how if you make more that 10k slinging in his neighborhood you have to cut in the cops, the curruption and jailing of Detroit’s mayor, and how he was passed out on a sofa in the trap, high as fuck on some banger weed, post dome from a customer. “Woke up in shock an shit, unable to breathe an called an ambulance cause I was gon die”.

After hours of that type of talk it was 8am. Time for discharge, a cab back to the Detroit hotel /casino I was staying at for a few successful hands of black jack, to get in the game for a full day of shooting of the following video…

RIME & 1xRUN PRESENTS: “WRAP SHEETS DETROIT FANTASTIC”
In Detroit the streets be wild and only the most thug motherfuckers come out on top, falling on both sides of the law. Veteran detective Rimessy Foley diffuses terrorists attacks, lays the hammer down on sucker mc’s, and comes up on dealers and crackheads. But at the end of the day he always finds time to artfully violate his paper work and rewrite the Arrest Sheet.

“Sit around long enough and you’re bound to come up with something interesting. Whether it’s an all night drawing session, or a series of half-joking ideas blurted out in brainstorming meetings at the 1xRUN headquarters to come up with something new for a promo video. The only agreed upon point was that if we’re going to put out a video, we might as well have fun making it. Our main goal was to create something obscenely retarded, but cool. Whether it’s on found arrest sheets or in a three minute online video, a bullshit story thrown out there should come across as amusing, somewhat offensive, and (hopefully) viewable.” – Rime
