Getting into graffiti on Staten Island in the early 90’s, SCOPE 2 was one of the most influential style writers to come from this segregated area of New York City. Known for his segment in Video Graff 2 with Mars & Take 5 shot in 1990, Scope has decided to come back out after several years of retirement. It was a real honor to get to paint with him after all these years.
When trying to think of a phrase to write between Scope and I, I came up with “American Accent… A’yo”. It’s a reference to both of us being based out west with seemingly out of place New York accents. That in combination with my steady use of American Accents paint in the early to mid 90’s.
On a side note, having a thick (American) accent seems a bit odd to some in California. A few months back I started speaking with this lady about something. Before I could finish my second sentence she cuts me off saying “wait, are you South African or something?”…

Last week I had a chance to paint large wall in Oakland with REYES. We buffed the wall white and Reyes went to work freestyling red and black designs with a fat cap.
Taking in what Reyes laid down, I improvised in turning random shapes or patterning into characters.
Meme had an idea to bring together females involved with graffiti. That idea expanded including females that pursue multiple avenues of art making, and the formation of Few & Far. Their first project was on a large warehouse in and industrial section of Oakland. Here is what went down…
Expect more walls from these ladies this year in cities like Seattle and Miami. For more on the Few & Far project visit: FewAndFarWomen.com
